Recruitment for the initiative was completed in Q2, and agreements with key partners were finalized. Planning for the first Partnership Council meeting was initiated, with a focus on building alignment across organizations. These steps establish the foundation for coordinated action toward reducing discrimination in Grey/Bruce, using the GBLIP 2022 discrimination study as the benchmark.
In Q1, work focused on curriculum development for local Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training for organizations, completion of a literature review and convening a working group of community partners for an immigrant retention study in collaboration with the Huron Local Immigration Partnership and Western University. Work advanced on the Communications Strategy including the development of social media posts, monthly cultural calendars and collaborative messaging campaigns with partners in the settlement sector. Research, education and communications initiatives disseminated evidence-based data and dispelled misinformation about immigration to decrease the amount of discrimination toward minority groups. Also in Q1, the 2025-2028 Community Action Plan was endorsed by Council.
In Q2, implementation of the Community Action Plan begins. Work will focus on launching capacity building projects including the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training program and a speaker series. Communications projects will continue with a focus on website updates and the development of a partner portal for coordinated access to tools and resources for organizations and employers.
