1.3.4 Decrease the amount of discrimination toward minority and the indigenous community in Grey/Bruce, using the Grey Bruce Local Immigration Partnership's (GBLIP) 2022 discrimination study numbers as the benchmark.

Recruitment for the initiative was completed in Q2, and agreements with key partners were finalized. Planning for the first Partnership Council meeting was initiated, with a focus on building alignment across organizations. These steps establish the foundation for coordinated action toward reducing discrimination in Grey/Bruce, using the GBLIP 2022 discrimination study as the benchmark.

In Q3, work will focus on advancing capacity building projects including the Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training program and a speaker series. Consultation on GBLIP's EDI curriculum with partners and newcomers will take place. Communications projects will continue with a focus on the development of a partner portal for coordinated access to tools and resources for organizations and employers. 

In Q2, work focused on curriculum development for local Equity, Diversity and Inclusion training for organizations, including consulting on sector-specific curriculum design. Literature review on why immigrants leave our rural regions identified experiences of discrimination and stigma as possible factors affecting retention - work progressed to Phase 2 of Research project. Work advanced on the Communications Strategy including the development of social media posts, monthly cultural calendars and messaging campaigns including launching Newcomer Voter Outreach to provide information to new voters. Speaker series kicked off with a seminar on issues affecting 2SLGBTQIA+ newcomers in rural areas. Research, education and communications initiatives disseminated evidence-based data and dispelled misinformation about immigration to decrease the amount of discrimination toward minority groups.
