2.3.3 Advocate for Bruce County perspective on provincial legislative changes.
Since the last update, staff have continued to monitor provincial legislative developments relevant to Bruce County’s priorities. Key activities included reviewing proposed amendments to the Planning Act and engaging with AMO to better understand implications for rural municipalities. Preliminary findings were shared with internal stakeholders, prompting early discussions on potential advocacy strategies. While no major shifts in timelines or scope have occurred, the evolving nature of the legislation presents both challenges in maintaining alignment with County goals and opportunities to strengthen intergovernmental relationships.
Q1 included participation in ROMA, which included nine Bruce County–led delegations, including follow‑up discussions with staff after the event. Planning and reach out to federal contacts is occurring. Additionally, council submitted a number of letters and responses to legislation such as Buy-Ontario, the Rural Federal Action Plan and a number of planning legislation changes.
Q2 will see a number of actions undertaken including staff level advocacy during CNA, update of the policy platform and presentation of the impact of advocacy work. Additionally, Bruce County will participate in a number of events at Queen's Park in conjunction with organizational partners such as WOWC
